Spooktacular Lessons - Build a Monster

October 13, 2019

Here's the thing - no matter what age our students are, they're never too young for arts and crafts. Every year, I loved to have students build their own monster and write a piece about their fun monster they created and it's so FUN. They really get into it!

This is a fun activity for the month of October! Engage students into writing and creating their very own monster! This is enjoyable for all secondary students, even the big kids will enjoy being a little kid again during Halloween.

I think it's so important to have students do fun activities that are seasonal (and appropriate!!!) and letting them have fun. I don't recommend you grade this, but have students share it with each other. One year, I had a group of students create monsters and then write their stories together where each student wrote another "chapter" of their book. It was SO CUTE.

Let them be creative. Let them have fun. Let them be kids. :)

This activity includes:

  • Directions to create a monster poster

  • 7 different prompts to help students to start their writing process (even though they can always come up with their own prompts!)

  • Teacher directions/suggestions

  • Examples page

  • "monster doodle border" template - where students can write their story AND color in the boarder!

  • Hand - drawn (by me!) monster coloring page
